The capped expenditure period for a local government general election:
- commences 1 July in the year of the election
- ends on election day.
The capped expenditure period for a local government by-election:
- commences on the day the by-election is publicly notified
- ends on election day.
The capped expenditure period for a local government election (when a council is dismissed or when the council is declared to be non-functioning):
- commences three months before election day, or
- commences on the day the proclamation was made determining the election day,
whichever date is the latest, and
- ends on election day.
