Party and candidate workers and scrutineers during voting

Party or candidate workers distribute electoral material (how-to-vote material) on behalf of candidates, political parties and others. They are not required to be appointed to engage in this task. For more information, please see the section Party and candidate workers.

A scrutineer observes election processes to see that rules are followed fairly and impartially.

A scrutineer may only be appointed by a candidate. A scrutineer must be appointed in writing using the form LG.213 Appointment of scrutineer.

Appointed scrutineers will be issued with scrutineer identification and a purple vest that must be worn at all times when undertaking scrutineer tasks.

For information about the role of party and candidate workers and the role of scrutineers during voting please refer to LG.233A Scrutineer and party/candidate worker guidelines – voting centres.

Scrutineers should also read the full LG.215 Scrutineer policy.
