Dubbo Regional Council was established on 12 May 2016. It holds 37,966^ electors and occupies an area of 7,538 square kilometres. This is an undivided council and is served by 10 councillors including a Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Dubbo Regional Council was formerly known as Western Plains Regional Council and was renamed in 2016.
