The 2024 NSW Local Government elections will be held on Saturday, 14 September 2024.

The decision to adopt countback elections is to be resolved at the first council meeting following the election.

It is up to each council, but we would suggest around June/July 2024.

Temporary legislation was introduced for the December 2021 NSW Local Government elections to enable iVote to be used during the COVID-19 pandemic period. That legislation no longer exists.

A series of webinars will be held for election participants in the lead up to the 2024 NSW Local Government elections. Registrations for the webinars will be available on our website shortly.

Councils may run their own information seminars (e.g. what does it mean to be a Councillor in our council?). The NSWEC will provide information to councils regarding the candidate information webinars that can be used in any council-conducted session.

The NSWEC will inform candidates of their obligations as a candidate. The induction of successful candidates into a council is the responsibility of each council.

The NSWEC has a disinformation register available on our website to track and rebut prominent false and misleading statements about electoral processes.
