Funding and disclosure online - privacy notice

Funding and disclosure online is an online portal that supports political participants to comply with their obligations under electoral funding laws.

Use of Funding and disclosure online is governed by the portal’s specific Terms of Use and the NSW Electoral Commission’s Website Privacy Statement. The Terms of Use sets out what personal information is collected, why we are collecting it, if it is compulsory, what we will do with it and whether it can be accessed or amended.

Only a natural person (not an entity) can apply to have an online account. Your request to gain access to Funding and disclosure online will be assessed by the NSW Electoral Commission.

Applications to use the online system must be supported by two types of personal identification information, e.g. a drivers licence number, Medicare number or passport number. These identification numbers are submitted to the Document Verification Service (DVS) (managed by the Australian Government) for the purpose of confirming that they match records held by the government authority that issued them.

The identification numbers are not retained by the NSW Electoral Commission. The NSW Electoral Commission will only retain the response provided by the DVS, which is generally a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response with respect to the matching process, the type of identification document provided (e.g., ‘Driver Licence’) and the name provided by the political participant.

You are required to consent to us using the DVS to assist us in verifying your identity.

If a political participant does not provide the information that is required by DVS, or the DVS check does not confirm a positive match with two forms of identification, they will not be able to progress the request for portal access. A positive match does not guarantee your request for an online account will be approved.

If we approve your request, the features of Funding and disclosure online available to you will depend on the permissions attached to your role e.g. whether you are a party agent or elected member. The permissions are determined by legislation that sets out what you are responsible for.

If you cannot or do not access and utilise Funding and disclosure online, you are required to use paper forms and manual processes.

Please refer to the Terms of Use on the webpage of the portal for further information including how your personal information is collected, used and disclosed by the NSW Electoral Commission when interacting with the portal. Find more information about how the DVS works
