Text messages distributed regarding telephone and internet voting (iVote)

The NSW Electoral Commission is aware of text messages distributed regarding the iVote technology assisted voting platform for the NSW State election on 23 March 2019.

These text messages link to the website ‘ownyourvote.com.au’

The NSW Electoral Commission does not operate nor endorse the website or these text messages. Voters should be aware that any personal information they provide on this website is not provided to the NSW Electoral Commission and is not covered by the NSW Electoral Commission’s privacy policy.

iVote is a form of technology assisted voting. To learn more about iVote, please visit: ivote.nsw.gov.au. To be eligible to use iVote:

  • The voter’s residence is not within 20 kilometres, by the nearest practicable route, of a voting centre

  • The voter cannot read or write, and is unable to vote without assistance

  • The voter has a disability (within the meaning of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977) and because of that disability, has difficulty voting at a voting centre or is unable to vote without assistance

  • The voter is a silent elector

  • The voter will be interstate throughout the hours of voting on election day

  • The voter will be overseas throughout the hours of voting on election day

  • The voter is a person who is blind or has low vision and is unable to vote without assistance.
