Nominations for the Bega Valley Shire Council by-election to be held next month closed at 12 noon today.

The following four candidates have nominated to contest the by-election:

KNIGHT, Jeff

MCMANUS, Phil

FITZPATRICK, Russell

CARMODY, Graham

Electors may view each candidate’s information sheet at www.elections.nsw.gov.au or at the office of the Returning Officer.

Electoral Commissioner Colin Barry reminded voters of early voting options.

“If you cannot get to a polling place on election day you can still make your vote count by casting a pre-poll or postal vote”, said Mr Barry.

Postal vote applications will be accepted up until 5.00pm on Monday, 30 November.

Pre-poll voting is available Monday to Friday, commencing Monday, 23 November and closing at 6.00pm on Friday, 4 December, at the Returning Office, Bega Valley Shire Council, Zingel Place Bega.

Pre-poll voting will also be available from Wednesday, 2 December to 6pm Friday 4 December 2009. at Merimbula Library, Main Street Merimbula.

Election day is Saturday, 5 December. Voting is compulsory for all residents on the electoral roll.
