Candidate information seminars for Broken Hill

28 August 2009

The New South Wales Electoral Commission (NSWEC) will hold two information

seminars for candidates considering standing at the upcoming Broken Hill City Council election.

“This is an initiative to ensure candidates standing for local government are fully aware of their obligations and responsibilities under the law’, said the NSW Electoral Commissioner Colin Barry.

“Anyone thinking of running for councillor or mayor is encouraged to attend one of the seminars to learn first hand about the electoral process, including how to nominate, form groups, register how to vote material and declare donations.

‘”The public expects high quality, informed candidates to stand for local council so we are also urging everyone who intends to stand for election to acquaint themselves with the electoral laws.”

Two seminars will take place at the Council Chambers, Broken Hill City Council, corner of Sulphide and Blende Streets, Broken Hill on Monday, 7 September at the following times:

2.00pm to 4.00pm

5.00pm to 7.00pm

Pre-registration is not required.

Further information about the seminars and the Broken Hill City Council election is available at www.elections.nsw.gov.au or by calling 1300 135 736.
