Candidate information seminar for Gwydir Shire

12 October 2009

The New South Wales Electoral Commission (NSWEC) will hold an information seminar for candidates considering standing at the upcoming Gwydir Shire Council by-election.

“This is an initiative to ensure candidates standing for local government are fully aware of their obligations and responsibilities under the law’, said the NSW Electoral Commissioner Colin Barry.

“Anyone thinking of running for councillor is encouraged to attend to learn first hand about the electoral process, including how to nominate, register how to vote material and declare donations.

‘”The public expects high quality, informed candidates to stand for local council so we are also urging everyone who intends to stand for election to acquaint themselves with the electoral laws.”

The seminar will take place at the Gwydir Shire Council Chambers, 54 Hope St, Warialda on Monday, 26 October 2009 at 7pm.

Pre-registration is not required.

Further information about the seminar and the Bega Valley Shire Council by-election is available at www.elections.nsw.gov.au or by calling 1300 135 736.
